Tonight was scheduled to have a family dinner at Shen Yi’s place before Lu Xinyi goes to Silver Leaf and before the twins go back abroad with their Mama An. With their adoption on hold since their real father appealed to the high court for their custody, the twins had to go back to their Mama An until the court came to a decision.
While Lu Xinyi was busy catching up with Matriarch Shen and the twins, Shen Yi pulled his younger brother to the garden to talk with him.
“Did you do what I’ve told you?” he asked Shen Xue.
Shen Xue rubbed his nape and looked away.
“I did most of the work you left, but you and Big Sis’s issue…”
Shen Yi glared at him. Couldn’t Shen Xue handle all the PR for the Shen Group? A simple follow-up and clean-up on the articles about him and Lu Xinyi should’ve been easily removed online.
It was his job to deal with the matters on media and public affairs.
“You didn’t…”
“It’s not like I couldn’t.” Shen Xue cut his brother, “Someone had already removed them and blocked everything about Big Sis. I assume it could be the Tang family based on what Qiao He found out, but as to why they’re helping us, I have no idea.”
Shen Yi’s brow rose before comprehension dawned at him. Tang family…
Of course, it would be easy for the Tang family to cover up everything. After all, the Tang family owned the Griffin Entertainment, the largest and most influential entertainment company within the country.
“They’re not helping us but Xinxin,” Shen YI responded.
The Shen and the Tang families were civil to each other, but there was no reason for the Tang family to help them… unless Lu Xinyi was involved.
“Big Sis?”
“Tang Lingfei,” Shen Yi stated, clearing the doubts on his brother’s mind.
“Holy shit,” Shen Xue smacked his forehead.
Tang Lingfei. How could he forget that Chairman Sun’s wife was Tang Lingfei? Does this mean that Lu Xinyi’s maternal grandmother’s back and had been helping Lu Xinyi secretly?
The Tang family had long distanced themselves from the Sun family. The animosity between the two families intensified after Sun Meixiu’s death and losing Lu Xinyi’s custody to the Lu family. With the marriage between Shen Yi and Lu Xinyi, the three families would undeniably be dragged to the issue once the public found out about Lu Xinyi’s identity.
Even though Tang Lingfei came from the branch family of the Tang’s, her influence over the current emperor of the entertainment industry couldn’t be denied. Shen Xue could have done it, but with the Tang family’s intervention, he’d saved a lot of time and resources.
“Does this mean you now have to take her blessing, too?” Shen Xue reminded his brother.
Shen Yi glared back at him. Now that Shen Xue mentioned it, he hadn’t asked anyone from Lu Xinyi’s family for her hand. Maybe this was a good time to talk with Tang Lingfei and declare his intentions to her granddaughter.
“What? Afraid that she’ll reject you and choose Li Yuren instead?” Shen Xue hit one of his older brother’s sore spots and took a step back when the aura around Shen Yi became deadly.
Shen Yi gave him a good kick at the shin, and Shen Xue limped in pain. Gosh, it was so easy to annoy his brother using his sister Xinxin.
“You wish for us to break up?” He challenged.
“Of course not! It was a joke!”
Losing his favorite sister-in-law meant losing access to those delicious meals. Although she was leaving for Silver Leaf, that didn’t mean that Shen Xue would not have a chance to eat the desserts she will make for his brother.
He knew his brother too well. Shen Yi developed a habit of taking some desserts Sister Xinxin made to work. Now, the only problem was how to get those damn, so-good desserts from Shen Yi’s office.
“Tang Lingfei isn’t the one we should worry about. The one that we’ve been waiting for has finally come back.” Shen Yi informed his brother.
The usual grin on Shen Xue’s face was replaced with a serious expression. Yes, Shen Yi was right. It was pointless to worry about the Tang family.
“Sun Feiyan isn’t our real problem… but her aunt. Once she found out that you’ve married Big Sis…”
“It doesn’t matter what she thinks about our marriage. As of now, Xinxin’s safety is our priority. Greed can kill; so can that vile woman.”
Shen Xue understood what his brother was implying. Sun Mingai would come after his sister-in-law anytime soon.
“I’ll send someone at Silver Leaf as undercover. I have also found a place near the academy where you can move. You may check the place after dropping Big Sis at Silver Leaf,” Shen Xue suggested.
His older brother didn’t reply as he was busy watching Lu Xinyi talking with the twins inside the living area. The past had nothing to do with them; she was all that mattered now.
Just before Shen Xue could leave his brother, Shen Yi threw something at him, which he easily caught. Opening his hand to see what it was, Shen Xue’s eyes widened.
“This…”
It was a key to a limited edition hybrid supercar he’d been trying to find and buy for years.
What the hell?!
When was the last time Shen Yi had given him anything? Shen Xue couldn’t remember. He kissed the car keys and hold on to it tightly. “Oh, my darling. I’ve been looking for you.”
“Take it as my token of gratitude. You’ve worked well this month, Xue,” Shen Yi said before leaving him alone to join his little family inside.
