Mai Qi scoffed, “Should I release the videos I have on her on the internet again?”
I shook my head. “It’s pointless. She’s just a puppet. I believe Master Gu Er or the Shi Family is behind this. Once you release those videos, they will be taken down instantly.”
Mai Qi looked around, “So we’re going to sit and watch these innocent people get tricked?”
I shrugged. “Don’t worry. The prostitution scandal happened not too long ago. They won’t dare to do anything so soon. Instead, we should focus on their financial trail. This is not a small investment. Perhaps we’ll find something interesting at the end of the paper trail.”
Mai Qi nodded and then whispered, “You mean someone might be using the company to launder money?”
I didn’t say anything but Mai Qi got it.
We didn’t have classes that afternoon. Mai Qi dragged me out for lunch. She said she was too tired from work, and she wanted me to treat her. In other words, I should cry for my wallet.
Coincidentally a new 6-star hotel just opened near the university. They said the hotel had a delicious restaurant so we decided to go there.
Soon as we took our seats, we saw Jing Ning and Nanyang walk in. Nanyang’s stomach was large. She was still dressed in red. After all, she was a newlywed. It was understandable that she was still in a celebratory mood. Nanyang held the crook of Jing Ning’s arm. She was as proud as a peacock.
They walked towards our table. “Yo, long time no see, Nanxing. I’m surprised you still have the mood to come out for lunch!”
I placed the prawn I was holding down on the plate. “Big sister, I can say the same for you.”
Nanyang held Jing Ning’s arm and looked down on us. “How do you have the appetite to eat? I can’t believe you. The Jing family is turned upside down because of you and you’re still here enjoying yourself.”
I sat up straight and looked up at her. I retorted, “How am I related to the situation at the Jing Family? Why can’t I enjoy myself? Big Sister, you are being unreasonable.”
Nanyang gritted her teeth in anger. “The situation has nothing to do with you? How can you be so shameless? Our family is fighting every day because of you! It’s because of you that grandpa is so angry! All of the uncles have refused to allow the 7th uncle to marry you so I’d advise you to give up. You are not good enough for him anyway!” Nanyang was arrogant and her voice was sharp.
Mai Qi coughed, “Nanyang, please watch your words. We are at a public place, don’t embarrass yourself.”
Nanyang used to be so afraid of Mai Qi but she was not the same Nanyang anymore. She told Mai Qi gently. “Miss Mai Qi, you better stay away from Nanxing. Nothing good ever happens to those close to her. My parents treated her so well but what did they get in the end? 7th uncle tutored her for a year and he was ensnared by her wicked charm, turning him into a black sheep of the Jing Family. See how much damage she has caused. Don’t be fooled by her appearance.”
I smiled at Mai Qi.
Mai Qi’s face dropped. “I am not going to argue with you since you’re pregnant. But please don’t nag at me with incidents within the Jing Family, it has nothing to do with me. Nanxing is my good friend and I am not leaving her.
“By the way, Nanyang, congratulations for marrying into the Jing Family. You finally got your wish. To celebrate, how about I invite Sister Ye Qian to have a meal with you and Jing Ning?”
Nanyang’s face paled immediately.
Mai Qi smirked. “I am sure Sister Ye Qian wouldn’t mind. She is always so gentle and sensible, right, Jing Ning?”
Jing Ning answered immediately, “Of course.”
Mai Qi glanced at Nanyang. “Nanxing and I still need to finish our meals. We won’t occupy your time anymore.”
