Lin Jin had many magic treasures in his possession. Aside from the Clear Wind Sword, he still had the Four Ocean Gourd and Immortal Binding Rope. The first treasure was so steadfast that it wouldn’t even shudder in the face of danger, and the other was too ignorant it couldn’t even sense danger.
The former was too experienced while the latter had yet to awaken its spiritual intelligence.
Lin Jin thought he had already gotten used to their traits. At times like these, the Four Ocean Gourd would always maintain an air of indifference, as if to say, ‘Use me if you need my help. Otherwise, don’t bother me.’
This somewhat calmed Lin Jin down quite a bit.
What’s more, Yan Shenjun seemed ignorant about the mysterious black creature, or his subordinate wouldn’t have died.
‘Let’s protect ourselves first and observe the situation. We’ll act when the opportunity arises.’ Lin Jin and Inferno Monk exchanged glances, acknowledging that both of them shared the same thoughts.
Lin Jin and Inferno Monk could keep their composure but Yan Shenjun couldn’t. After all, it was his subordinate who died.
He had to do something about it.
“Who are you and why do you have to kill us?”
Yan Shenjun started getting apprehensive following the ambush. When he unleashed his hand seal, that thing retaliated with a sharp object which cut his fingers. Profound immortals were known to have flesh as hard as steel. Whatever could easily cut him could not be underestimated.
Yan Shenjun may be able to keep his cool, but his comrades couldn’t, not when the one who died was the junior of his comrade.
“How dare you kill my junior?! I’ll have your life!” Furious, an old immortal dressed in grey robes tossed out a scroll.
“Stars of night and day, blades of a thousand men, converge!” he roared as he invoked a spell. The scroll unrolled and grew bigger, bringing forth the illusion of thousands of stars, the sun, and the moon.
Immediately, the cavern was lit up as bright as day.
Countless blades glistened under the sun, moon, and starry sky. There were so many of them that the bystanders felt their scalps prickle.
No doubt, this was a powerful spell.
However, it wasn’t long before everyone’s attention was drawn to the thing below them. The grey-robed immortal’s spell had illuminated the place so they could now see the creature in all its glory.
What they saw made even Lin Jin and Yan Shenjun gasp.
What entered their vision was the image of a gigantic spider. Not even in his dreams would Lin Jin think that such a massive spider existed in this world.
Even its shortest limb appeared to be more than a hundred meters long. On the whole, the spider’s size exceeded Lin Jin’s expectations.
That wasn’t all. They also saw densely weaved cobwebs that glistened like razor-sharp barbwire below.
Lin Jin now knew what had cut Yan Shenjun’s finger.
Down below, layers of spiderwebs stacked on top of and intersected with each other. It completely sealed off their path. The giant spider stood in the middle of the web system and stared up at Lin Jin and his group with its beady eyes.
The immortals that stared back at the creature felt a chill run down their spines immediately.
Before anyone could notice, Lin Jin swiftly tossed a silver needle downward. He did it gently so the needle would fall onto the massive spider’s body.
Even the spider failed to notice his needle. After all, with a body this big, a tiny needle should only feel like a speck of dust. Would a person even feel it if a speck of dust fell onto their body?
Yet, this seemingly subtle move helped Lin Jin get a head start. With the museum’s help, he was able to appraise this giant spider, which induced fear even in profound immortals.
“Heaven weaving spider, Rank 8 violent beast, of five even attributes!”
“During ancient times, when heaven shattered, humans heeded the orders of heaven to breed heaven weaving spiders and cultivate it with the five-element stone, so they could weave five-element threads to mend the sky.”
“The only evolution method is…”
“The three injuries on its body are…”
Lin Jin gulped nervously when he saw the words ‘Rank 8’ included in the description.
Aside from the Rank 9 immortal devouring beast, this was the highest-ranking beast Lin Jin had ever seen. Its strength was on par with an unfettered immortal, so it was no wonder it felt so scary.
Only Lin Jin possessed this information at present; no one else had beast appraising abilities like him.
Whether you were a mortal or an immortal, to proceed without sufficient knowledge is a recipe for disaster.
The grey-robed immortal seemed adamant about avenging his junior so he thought nothing of the spider. Not only did he shout at the creature, but he also tried attacking it.
No one could stop him in time.
The countless blades he had consolidated earlier glowed brightly. While Yan Shenjun intended to stop him, it was too late.
“Slay!”
All blades shot forward in unison.
The downpour of swords resembled an iron torrent that rushed straight at the heaven weaving spider.
Lin Jin quickly grabbed Inferno Monk’s robes and tugged him backward.
At first, Inferno Monk was confused. After seeing the serious expression on Lin Jin’s face, he went along obediently. As Yan Shenjun and his group still had their attention on the grey-robed immortal and the giant spider, no one noticed them retreating.
The sword stream charged forward domineeringly. This was an all-out attack by someone at the peak of the half immortal realm. The attack was also enhanced by an amazing magic treasure, further driving up its lethality.
In the grey-robed immortal’s opinion, this attack was enough to kill the giant spider.
Although the creature was huge, the immortals didn’t see it as indestructible. After all, massive creatures, including monsters and immortal beasts, roamed in many parts of the extraterritorial land. As immortals experienced in the ways of the world, how could they be frightened by the size of this spider?
It wasn’t long before the confident grey-robed immortal was taken aback.
Before his blade stream even reached the spider, it was blocked off by the spider’s web. In terms of sharpness and tenacity, his flying blades lost to the seemingly fragile webs. They all shattered upon making contact with the threads. Sparks flew and crisp sounds resonated in the cavern. Due to the proximity, the shattered blades flew back, injuring the immortals who stood closest to the epicenter. Even if they weren’t hurt, they started backing away out of fear.
“What a strong beast!” Yan Shenjun’s expression looked grim. At that exact moment, the giant spider moved and hundreds of threads shot forward like flying swords. In less than a second, they reached the grey-robed immortal.
It happened so fast that they couldn’t react in time.
Shocked by this turn of events, the grey-robed immortal reflexively struck the threads with his staff. To his horror, the threads wound themselves around the staff and crushed it into powder. The grey-robed immortal couldn’t release his weapon in time so his arm got crushed in the process as well. When that happened, he began yelling out in pain.
However, the spider web had no intention of letting him go as they continued to wrap around him. This very scene reminded them of the unfortunate immortal from earlier.
