While some people in the world had to live with their misfortunes, others got to live happy lives.
Xie Yi raised her head and glanced at the grayish sky above.
“It’s okay.”
Xie Xuning went silent after responding with those two words. He was clueless about what he could talk about with Dr. Xie.
Xie Yi sniffed slightly and said, “When we were at the temple on top of the mountain that night, you had a fever and called a woman’s name in your sleep: Linlang.”
Xie Xuning blushed slightly upon hearing what Xie Yi said.
“Linlang’s my wife’s name.”
Linlang…
Linlang…
Xie Yi became somewhat emotional when Xie Xuning mentioned that name.
She wondered how it would’ve felt if Xie Xuning called her by her name, Xie Yi, instead of “Dr. Xie”.
“You must love your wife deeply. I’m jealous of your wife; I would love to be so deeply loved by such a great man like you.”
Xie Xuning smiled thinly. He looked into the distance with a hint of indifference in his eyes.
“My wife might be envying you right now too.”
Xie Yi was confused by what Xie Xuning said. Hadn’t Xie Xuning’s wife passed away many years ago?
If so, how could she be envious of her?
Moreover, she had nothing for her to envy.
She was just a sick patient with no past.
She was also prone to falling ill and losing her memories.
She envied people with healthy bodies and memories of the past, whether it be happy or painful. Compared to them, she had nothing.
“Dr. Xie, actually I’m…”
“Help!”
A scream for help could be heard from a distance while Xie Xuning and Xie Yi were speaking.
As a doctor, Xie Yi instinctively sprinted towards the direction of the cry for help.
The cold wind blew on Xie Yi’s face. She felt as if knives were slicing through the skin on her face.
Xie Yi ran into the distance…
Xie Xuning had no idea about what was happening. He could only keep running behind Xie Yi.
“Dr. Xie, what is it? What happened?”
Xie Xuning was tall and walked in long strides. Since he was also more physically fit than Xie Yi, he managed to catch up with her in no time.
Xie Yi looked at Xie Xuning with an agitated expression, “Someone’s calling for help. Didn’t you hear it?”
“No, I didn’t.”
Xie Xuning stood on the spot and listened attentively, but he was certain that he did not hear anyone cry for help.
Xie Yi shook her head and continued listening attentively. There seemed to be somebody crying for help from a distance.
“That’s impossible. I definitely heard somebody shouting for help.”
Xie Yi looked around her surroundings with a distressed expression.
Xie Xuning thought that Xie Yi’s expression seemed genuine.
“Dr. Xie, take a deep breath. Calm down and listen carefully again. Is there really somebody calling for help?”
Initially, Xie Yi was sure about what she heard, but she started feeling uncertain upon hearing what Xie Xuning said.
She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and listened attentively again.
Suddenly, a crashing sound pierced straight into her eardrums.
Bang!
She squatted down in agony. Waves of pain were spreading throughout her brain.
“Dr. Xie, what’s wrong?”
Xie Yi tried her best to hold onto Xie Xuning’s arm with her trembling hands. However, the stabbing pain in her head worsened as soon as she touched Xie Xuning’s skin.
The pain was so unbearable that Xie Yi let go of Xie Xuning’s arm subconsciously. Instead, she clutched onto Xie Xuning’s coat tightly as if she was drowning and trying to save herself.
“Dr. Xie, what’s wrong with you?”
Xie Xuning squatted down and supported Xie Yi, who looked as if she might fall anytime.
Xie Yi stared at Xie Xuning’s face, which was gradually getting blurred in her vision.
“Xie…”
A drop of tear rolled down Xie Yi’s cheek gradually from the corner of her eyes.
