The old butler shuddered. He stared at the phone in Mu Tingfeng’s hand and asked in surprise, “I-Is that Madam Mu?”
Mu Tingfeng quirked on his eyebrow when he heard how the old butler addressed Zhao Youlin. He did not say anything. Instead, he asked the person on the other end of the line even though he already knew the answer, “You are…”
The voice coming from the phone stopped abruptly as if she had been interrupted. After a while, the master and servant heard the mockery that they could not be more familiar with, “Hehe! It’s been only a few days since we saw each other. Can’t you even identify me by my voice? That’s very heartless of you, my dear ex!”
Zhao Youlin gritted her teeth as she spoke the final words. Meanwhile, Mu Tingfeng found it amusing.
This was especially so when he actually heard her teeth gnashing. He imagined various possible expressions coming from her pretty yet demonic face. As Mu Tingfeng thought of this, he felt considerably better. Even his lips who he hardly twitched gradually curled upward.
The pitiful old butler who had been standing helplessly at a side was caught by surprise once again.
‘D-Did the young master just smile?! Oh my God!’ The old butler had lived in the Mu family’s house for many years. He grew up watching the young master. This was his first time seeing the young master smile.
Although Mu Tingfeng’s lips twitched slightly, that alone was considered a rare sight. ‘Moreover, why did was the young master talking to Madam Mu, ahem, I mean Ms. Zhao, like he was teasing her…?’
Teasing? The young master who was always very serious and treated everything else with an icy disposition was actually teasing someone?! More so, the someone happened to be Zhao Youlin whom he had avoided like plague! What happened to the two of them when he was not around?!
Mu Tingfeng ignored the old butler’s dumbfounded expression. He was obviously happy because Zhao Youlin had taken the initiative to contact him just as he expected. His eyes sparkled. He spoke in a deep voice and asked a question in return, “Oh? So, my ex is calling. What’s the matter?”
Mu Tingfeng spoke calmly as if he was playing cat and mouse just to annoy Zhao Youlin. It worked spectacularly well. However, she was forced to hold back herself because the folder was still in the certain one’s hand.
“Why else would I come after you, President Mu? Are you going to act dumb about this?” After Zhao Youlin spoke, she cast a glance at the folder placed on the bedside table. Then, she recalled the nervous expression of Mu Tingfeng’s personal assistant as he was pursuing the thief. She looked away and decided to press on.
“President Mu, if you don’t remember it, I don’t mind repeating myself. I actually happened to pick up a pile of scrap paper by the roadside.”
When Mu Tingfeng heard Zhao Youlin described his pile of documents as trash, a hint of mischief appeared in his dark eyes, and he said, “So?”
Zhao Youlin almost choked. However, she insisted on finishing her words, “It’s nothing. I just happened to see the name of Mu Feng Group on the pile of scrap paper. It seems to be some important documents related to partnerships with a certain group. As such, I’m wondering if you still want your things back. If not, I’ll just throw them away into the dustbin. They’re taking up my space.”
“Just throw them away, then.” Before Zhao Youlin finished speaking, Mu Tingfeng had already interrupted her.
“What?!” Zhao Youlin froze and asked reflexively, “Aren’t those things…”
“They are fake,” Mu Tingfeng gloated and sounded even more gleeful when he heard her surprised tone.
Zhao Youlin fell speechless.
