The two races, God and Demon, were peak existences in the universe. They were known for being those closest to godhood and demonhood respectively, possessing combat power at levels that an average individual could not even imagine, dominating this piece of space.
Speaking of which, both the God and Demon Races were from the Law Realm, selected to join the elites due to their superb cultivation, exceptional combat strength, and even their remarkable technological prowess.
The Law Realm and the two peak races were inextricably linked, with plenty of close ties within, which was why some in the White Horse Constellation could qualify to enter the two races. White Ward, of course, had such qualifications since he was the patriarch of one of mankind’s Nine Great Clans.
Above the Law Warrior tier was Law Sovereign, and above that was the Law Emperor; the one after that was the Law Overlord. Once a Law Adept attained the cultivation level of a Law Overlord, they would then enter the purview of the two peak races and would subsequently be absorbed into either of the two when the opportunity presented itself. Of course, those professionals, such as apothecaries, artificers, et cetera, who possessed unique technical skills would not be limited by this.
There could only be two reasons for a warrior not being accepted into the two peak races after reaching the tier of Law Overlord: One, they were not talented enough and neither of the races favored them despite getting promoted to a Law Overlord and, two, they were made to remain in their respective major clans, so as to help those prosper.
The Moonward Clan had two Law Overlords: One was Patriarch White Ward and the other was Ulcen Ward, who oversaw the clan’s armed forces. This was also the man whose appearance on Snake Isle made a tremendous impact on the fight, having single-handedly closed the dark spatial tears and having nearly killed Xia Fei.
White Ward was in the open, while Ulcen Ward worked covertly, covering both the function of leadership and protection of the clan respectively. Once the time was ripe, and the new talents from Moonward Clan were nurtured, they would then be able to leave White Horse Constellation and join the God Race, reuniting with their ancestors who were living there. However, before this came to be, they would first have to complete the heavy responsibility the clan had entrusted to them, not letting the continued survival of the family be threatened.
White Ward had decided to ask for help from their clan’s ancestors who were currently living with the God Race. Thus, they first went looking for Ulcen Ward and explained the situation to him, who found the entire affair to be very thorny.
“In the Law Realm, there are some clans that we mustn’t provoke, and the Skywings are one such clan. Boson, you’ve really messed up this time,” Ulcen Ward said with a stern expression on his face. He was never one for many words, and just this one sentence was enough to show his great displeasure toward Boson.
“Ulcen, just blaming Boson won’t be of any use. We still need to come up with a countermeasure. I’ve decided to seek our grand ancestor for aid. What do you think?” White Ward spoke to Ulcen in a voice that asked for input, not at all putting on airs of any sort.
Ulcen Ward nodded, using a harsh tone as he exhorted, “Xia Fei must die! We mustn’t drag the Skywings into this. Our grand ancestors have experts who are versed in the Law of Mental Pursuit. Let’s beg them for help, and no matter where Xia Fei’s hiding, he’s going to be found. We must eliminate Xia Fei before the Law Enforcement Board gets him!”
White Ward and Ulcen Ward’s attitude was unexpectedly identical, both believing that Xia Fei must not remain alive. They knew that the moment the unreasonably rude Skywings were implicated, there would be no way for this matter to be easily resolved anymore.
The moment their target died, everything would be laid to rest!
Killing Xia Fei was the only option the Moonward Clan had left!
“Let’s go; I’ll join you. The grand ancestors have tasked us to protect the clan, and I am responsible for this incident as well. If our superiors find fault, we’ll both bear the responsibility,” Ulcen Ward simply answered.
White Ward was extremely grateful, offering his fellow clan brother a respectful salute, leaving Boson Ward as they headed off for a visit to the God Race!
……
A stir in the small Yu family had instantly skipped White Horse Constellation and gone straight to affect the God Race. This was not something anyone would have expected!
Just when the two Law Overlords from Moonward Clan were preparing to head off, a storm was throwing the Law Enforcement Board into an uproar!
The patriarch of Withered Mu Clan, Mu Qiyun, and the Fengs’ family patriarch, Kuzan Feng, had arrived one after the other, an event that shocked the entire board. Both were welcomed with the utmost priority.
The three juniors, Zanian Feng, Mu Fuping, and Wolf Shunye, were of course not admitted into the conference room, so all they could do was wait outside for the news.
Shunye was rubbing his buttocks with one hand as he moaned, “The two of you managed to invite your ancestors over, but my grand ancestor not only refused to come, he even paddled me! I don’t know who went and informed him of all the embarrassing deeds I did while in the Law Enforcement Registration Department!”
Zanian chuckled as he gestured for them to sit under a scaffolding. Mu Fuping was very nervous, her eyes constantly drifting over in the direction of the conference room.
“Gigawolf, you’ve actually done pretty well already. At the very least, your seventh uncle agreed to mediate this, and with both the Mu Clan and my Feng family representing, the Law Enforcement Board has no choice but to place importance on this matter. Besides, when haven’t you come away with a paddling after seeing your grand ancestor? It hardly comes as a shock,” Zanian said in amusement.
Shunye shook his head. “It’s different this time. It’s all for Brother Xia Fei’s sake, so who cares if I had to get paddled for it? What matters is that I failed to convince that old coot to step out. I simply can’t accept that.”
Zanian Feng pointed to Shunye’s lips. The man simply had no idea when to stay silent. To dare and call his own clan patriarch an old coot, he would surely have no good days ahead if word got out. Everyone in the circle knew just how explosive a temper the Cruelwolf Clan’s patriarch had, matching what Mu Qiyun had. Neither allowed for such insults to go unpunished.
Shunye’s face went pale as he hurriedly covered his mouth.
“I wonder what they’re discussing inside…” Mu Fuping’s two palms were clenched, her voice trembling in her nervousness.
Zanian consoled her. “No matter what they may be discussing inside, the result is all but certain. The current president, Mingxin, is a very cautious person, who will definitely not dare to offend the Feng family and the Withered Mu Clan. I assume that he is now anxiously explaining how he will settle this matter as soon as possible.”
The president of the Law Enforcement Board was a position which the Nine Great Clans took turns holding every five years. Since it was the Brightsea Clan’s turn this time, the other eight clans were automatically delegated as vice presidents. From what Zanian understood of Mingxin, there would be no way that the Law Enforcement Board could keep things under wraps further.
“I sure hope so,” Mu Fuping softly muttered to herself.
…
The talks proceed swiftly. In less than ten minutes, Mingxin personally led the eight vice presidents and ushered Mu Qiyun and Kuzan Feng out very respectfully.
Kuzan gave a slight nod to his son in the distance, and the meaning of this gesture was very obvious. This matter had been settled, and all he needed to do was wait for the good news.
Mu Fuping was still uneasy, doing a light jog over as she took Mu Qiyun’s arm and called him grandfather.
Mu Qiyun knew what Mu Fuping was thinking, so he did not deny her the truth as he loudly stated, “Don’t worry. President Ming already gave a promise that they will uncover the truth about everything in three days’ time!”
Mingxin bowed to Mu Qiyun as he said with a smile, “That’s right. Miss Fuping can rest easy. The Law Enforcement Board is also on the side of justice, so please be reassured, my lady.”
Actually, this was a huge headache for Mingxin. He simply could not make sense of just what relationship Xia Fei shared with Zanian Feng and Mu Fuping, and how that related to these old monsters, so much so that these two extraordinary individuals would personally question the board about him.
Though Kuzan and Mu Qiyun treated Mingxin with respect in front of others right now, showing him plenty of face, the two had hardly done that while they were in the conference room before; this was particularly true for the fiery-tempered Ancestor Mu. Barely holding himself back from pointing his finger directly at Mingxin’s nose, he gave the man a dressing down. Just thinking back to the scene made Mingxin break out in a cold sweat. There was no way he could afford to provoke an old monster of that caliber.
…
After gingerly sending off Kuzan Feng and Mu Qiyun, Mingxin hurriedly invited back into the office all the nine vice-presidents, and they began discussing just how they would resolve this situation.
The nine sat around the table while Mingxin wiped the sweat off his brows with a handkerchief and gravely laid things out. “Everyone should’ve more or less understood what Hallmaster Feng and Ancestor Mu said earlier, so let’s now talk about just how we are going to act. I’m afraid that we won’t be done with this if we fail to provide a satisfactory account to the two men.”
Vice-president Mu Qianling was immediately displeased upon hearing this. He was from the Withered Mu Clan, so he would, of course, speak in favor of his clan.
“President Ming, our clan’s grand ancestor had no intention of forcing you to act. It’s the responsibility of the Law Enforcement Board to deal with such situations impartially and with haste. My grand ancestor was merely concerned with what’s going on in the circle and came over to ask some questions. It’s all very normal.”
Mingxin hurriedly flashed a congenial smile. “Ah, yes. Vice-president Mu is right. This ought to be the Law Enforcement Board’s responsibility in the first place; Ancestor Mu was just showing concern for the Law Realm, having troubled himself by coming over to advise us in our work. We ought to be grateful toward him.”
He had no choice. The Law Enforcement Board had always been weak when it came to execution, and the reason was because of the Nine Great Clans’ disputes with one another. Each and every one of them had their own hidden agendas, just like today. Mingxin had been careless with his choice of words; in the end, he got caught out by Mu Qianling and attacked for it. It was a clear indication of how little regard they had for their president, and no matter how aggrieved Mingxin felt inside, he had to grin and bear it. After all, everyone present, himself included, was also outstanding individuals from the Nine Great Clans.
Wolf Jiulin nodded. “It’s best if we come up with a solution as soon as possible so that we can give a satisfying account to the entire Law Realm. Rumors are flying freely out there now, saying that the Law Enforcement Board has turned black into white, letting a murderer succeed as the family patriarch while putting a bounty on the righteous. If we fail to settle this matter properly, it’ll greatly affect our reputation in the Law Realm.”
Wolf Jiulin was Wolf Shunye’s sixth uncle, someone who favored Shunye the most. Since he had asked for his help on this matter, Jiulin had also joined the side that sought to settle this situation as soon as possible.
*Bang*
Just as those words left his lips, the doors to the president’s office got kicked, and everyone turned their heads to the noise.
The person who had barged in was no stranger, but the most headache-inducing member of the Law Enforcement Board, Xia Zonghai!
The entire Law Enforcement Board was made up of people from the Law Realm, where the major clans all sent representatives to join it. The elderly Xia Zonghai, who happened to be the representative of the Skywings, joined the Law Enforcement Board, too.
This old man had a strange temperament, not playing by anyone’s rules but his own, and not even the nine presidents were his match whenever he caused a stir. Due to the special status he enjoyed, the entire Law Enforcement Board treated him with reverence as if he were their ancestor, so he had no qualms doing something like barging into a discussion between the leaders.
Everyone knew that Xia Zonghai was anything but reliable, yet no one dared to provoke him. This was really quite a scene to behold in the Law Enforcement Board.
Mingxin knitted his eyebrows, getting up with a beaming smile on his face, “Elder Xia, you came just at the right time. We’re currently having trouble coming up with a plan for this. Why don’t you take a seat and join us in the discussion?”
Mingxin then actually got up and invited Xia Zonghai to take his seat at the head of the table. The old man actually took a seat down without a second thought, thereafter!
Everyone frowned. Though they were displeased with how Xia Zonghai carried himself, no one dared to say it outright.
Mingxin was very glum. He had no choice but to bring over another chair and sat next to Xia Zonghai, as the nine presidents all continued their meeting under the watchful gaze of Xia Zonghai.
*Bang!*
After only a few words had been exchanged, Xia Zong Hai suddenly slapped the table, catching all these distinguished presidents unprepared, with some appearing slightly embarrassed over their involuntary jump.
“What use is all this talk! Let’s go and find an expert who cultivates the Law of Mental Pursuit to find that young man and settle this matter once and for all!” Xia Zonghai declared loudly.
Everyone was surprised. This suggestion Xia Zonghai had given was indeed a possibility. Anyone who cultivated the Law of Mental Pursuit to a high level would be able to track down any life in the entire universe, which was even more powerful than a super radar.
As long as Xia Fei could be located, they could interrogate him for the details and the truth would naturally follow!
Without realizing it, the idea of the Moonward Clan and the Law Enforcement Board had actually aligned this time.
However, the difference was that the board had no intention of killing Xia Fei, while the Moonward Clan wanted him dead!
