Apocalypse Cockroach Chapter 243

Chapter 245: Resolution

Here, He Wen Bin turned and looked towards the others, “If we win, we can sweep the city empty and gather all the resources back. At that time, Old Frank can dig the mountain hollow. If we can’t kill off all the zombies, at least we can defend and protect ourselves here. I reckon that at that point, the food supply in our base will be sufficient for more than a decade.”

Seeing how confident He Wen Bin was, Zhang Xiao Wiang nodded in agreement. Zhang Xiao Qiang’s train of thoughts was to act passively to defend, with the only course of action as Three luring the zombies away. He Wen Bin’s idea was to take the opportunity while the zombies leave the city to destroy them in open areas. He had even laid out the best and worst case scenario for Zhang Xiao Qiang.

Zhang Xiao Qian understood He Wen Bin’s intent, to clear the zombies, remove the huge threat towards the base and even obtain supplies and equipment from an entire city. If they failed, at least they would have provided extra time for the construction of the wall.

“Three, go and prepare. Gather a 100 of the bravest, this time only men. There isn’t time for them to train, so we will let them learn on the job, if they survive, they’ll be entitled to weapons and rice. If anyone tries to run on the battlefield, the le members can fire first, report later.”

“Shua” Three stood up, nodded his head towards Zhang Xiao Qian and turned to leave.

“Wang Le…. Lead your men and help me overhaul two trucks overnight, install the 14.5 caliber AA guns on them, make sure they are capable of firing at any time, and able to run the moment they are finished.”

Wang Le stood up, nodded, and left.

“Old Frank, take 500kg worth of meat tickets and 10 cartons of cigarettes, take whatever else you need. All I want is for you to make more incentives for your subordinates. Tell them, the first three to complete their tastings first can marry wives, be hailed as team leaders, enjoy the benefits as the combat team members. I don’t care about anything else, if the work can be completed a day before or an hour before, do it. Do what you need, but remember that the time you have is earned by the combat team members.”

Old Frank nodded his head and left.

“Zhang Xiao Qiang looked at the others, what are you guys still waiting for? Get to work, now?”

Everyone except He Wen Bin scurried out, even the clumsy Fat Chef ran, and actually ran the fastest.

Zhang Xiao Qiang turned and nodded towards He Wen Bin, “I’ll have to depend on you for matters inside the base, now that ammunition isn’t a problem, I want everyone to have three magazines each, and every vehicle should have three times their current amount as well.”

After He Wen Bin nodded in agreement, Zhang Xiao Qiang walked out.

On the next day, the greatest difference of the survivors was that no ladies were seen wandering near the lake, there were no combat members standing at the villa entrance with gifts waiting for their loved ones, as though the entire base had immersed into a strange and tense atmosphere. Aside from Zhang Xiao Qiang and the few ladies by his side, there was no one else idling.

After suffering from the serious injuries for 100 days, Yuan Yi finally healed from the deep gash on her chest and could move as per normal, but Zhang Xiao Qiang knew that she had not truly recovered. Without a CT scan or X-ray, no one in the base could dare confirm Yuan Yi would not have any residual effects.

Zhang Xiao Qiang brought the ladies and did the morning training, the only difference was the participation of the dirty young boy. The young boy was unhappy that Zhang Xiao Qiang pulled him out of bed early in the morning.

Looking at the young boy, Zhang Xiao Qiang felt puzzled. He had attempted to drag the boy out to wash his face, but the boy acted like a cat when he saw the water and immediately turned crazy. He struggled with all his might to escape and even bit Zhang Xiao Qiang. In the end, Zhang Xiao Qiang gave up.

Seeing the lively and enthusiastic little boy, Zhang Xiao Qiang thought back of the time when he was young and caught fish in the river, then thought about the danger the base was in, and the silver lining of opportunity from the danger. His emotions ran wild as he continued to watch the boy goof off and dilly-dally. He went forward and kicked the boy in the butt.

The little boy held his butt and jumped up and stared at Zhang Xiao Qiang with his bright and innocent eyes. Looking at the angry boy, Zhang Xiao Qiang scolded him, “Why’re you still running so slowly, little boy, are you going to hide in your mum’s arms and drink milk all day? You’re now considered a man already, and very soon, you’ll have to hold a gun in the battlefield.”

When the boy heard the word gun, the look in his eyes turned passionate. He no longer stared at Zhang Xiao Qiang and focused on running. Seeing that the boy was serious, Zhang Xiao Qiang nodded his head. Fortunately, he did not kick too hard and used the same amount of strength his father used to kick him when he was young.

I used to be kicked by dad, now it’s finally my turn to kick others. At this thought, Zhang Xiao Qiang’s gloomy mood started to turn better.

The meeting room changed into a wargaming room, the projector screen on the wall now hung a large map of J-City, a map found when Zhang Xiao Qiang was sweeping a small town. On the map was a small sesame-sized blue dot, which indicated Zhang Xiao Qiang’s base, the hot spring base.

On the map were various red circles drawn with pencils, while Zhang Xiao Qiang’s blue dot stood right in the center of the middle most circle. The red circles represented the scattered zombies and by the looks of the map, the hot spring base was already completely surrounded.

It was not that the location Zhang Xiao Qiang found was bad, it was coincidentally in the center of the zombie hordes, and that the current state of the country where over a billion zombies roamed all over China. So regardless of where one’s base was, they would definitely be surrounded by zombies.

Looking at the large circles, Zhang Xiao Qiang felt like wrapping up the entire base and bringing it into an empty desert, the desert definitely would not have so many zombies.

Around the blue dot was a small blue circle, which was the area of definite control the base had. Inside the blue circle, no zombies existed due to the scout members frequent missions to wipe them out.

The blue circle was surrounded by a black circle. In the past, Three had brought people to sweep this entire safe region where not a single horde of zombie existed. But due to the large area, they did not look for wandering and scattered zombies.

Beyond the black safe region laid a blank space, which was the so-called ‘buffer zone’. Here, many of the zombies were killed as well and the initial goal of the combat team members were to plunder the goods and kill the zombies. As the zombies spread out further, this opportunity was stopped as well.

Seeing the red lines gradually extending into the blank space, Zhang Xiao Qiang fell into deep thoughts and started to sketch with the pencil in hand. In the end, he threw the pencil away, sat on the floor with his hands on his head as he looked up at the map on the wall.

Aside from staying at home all day in the past, Zhang Xiao Qiang was completely oblivious to anything related to the army. Looking at the map, he could roughly gauge the situation between the zombies and them, but as to where to attack, ambush and utilize terrain, Zhang Xiao Qiang was completely blind.

After rubbing his temples, Zhang Xiao Qiang stood up once more and walked to the map. J-City’s terrain was not complicated, aside from a few scattered hills and a few mountain peaks, there were no natural strongholds.

Looking at the map, Zhang Xiao Qiang finally knew why the civilian army would surrender in the civil war. The city was open at all four sides, and once surrounded by the military, what else could they do but surrender?

Zhang Xiao Qiang’s current situation was exactly like a civil war. But it was a pity that the zombies would never surrender, and aside from fighting to the death, there were no other options.

Zhang Xiao Qiang ruffled his hair and looked at the map, the cigarette in his mouth emitted smoke until he felt the heat on his lips. He immediately spat out the cigarette butt out and took out a box.

Zhang Xiao Qiang threw the crushed box in his hand on the ground. He then looked back at the map and walked out, back to his room for more cigarettes.

Downstairs, the usually bustling main building was quiet, the logistic members that were usually busy moving things on a daily basis had gone to help out at the construction site. Zhang Xiao Qiang walked towards his home when a Prince motorbike approached him from a distance. The red paint on the bike body was like a dazzling flame that sped across. In the blink of the eye, it arrived before him.
