Feng Tianlan stiffened up when the wound on her back was touched. Then, she continued to try and make sense of the strange events, “The vines suck blood, and there couldn’t have been only one eagle. There were probably seven or eight, at least. If Si Mobai hadn’t chased them away or stopped them, then the eagles’ flesh and blood would have covered us. The vines would have become even more violent and minced us all on the spot, eating us right up.”
When someone was injured and the smell of blood filled the air, the vines, which were ordinarily harmless and only caught people in mid-air, suddenly became violent and started attacking. If Si Mobai hadn’t dealt with the eagles, the consequences would have been too terrifying to imagine.
Luo Yunzhu and the rest were so frightened when they heard this that their faces paled. They looked respectfully and apologetically toward Si Mobai.
Si Mobai did not bother with anyone else’s feelings besides Feng Tianlan’s. His eyes fell on her injured back. A vine about the length of a finger was still attached to her, invading her body through the opening of the wound.
“This may be a bit painful, but you have to endure it.” Si Mobai put his arm in front of Feng Tianlan’s mouth. “Bite down on my arm. It’ll be less painful that way.”
“What’s wrong?” Feng Tianlan turned back and looked at him quizzically. It was just a wound, so it only needed to be dressed. Surely, it couldn’t be that painful, right?
“A vine has gone inside your body and seems to be stuck, so I’m going to pull it out.”
Feng Tianlan grunted lightly, remembering the vine on her back. The Spirit Severing Vine had climbed on her and sucked her blood. Other than being able to feel that there was a wound, she didn’t feel anything else.
Si Mobai gently touched the vine, and it moved a little as if it were still alive, then lazily rested on the wound again.
“Does it hurt?” Si Mobai furrowed his brows in a fury.
Feng Tianlan shook her head lightly. “No.”
“I’m going to start then.” Si Mobai put his arm in front of Feng Tianlan’s mouth.
Feng Tianlan lightly grunted and looked down at his large hand. It was broad and thick, with some callouses between the thumb and forefinger. He’d earned those from many years of holding a sword.
Luo Yunzhu and the other two ladies were very scared of Si Mobai, but when they heard what had happened, they couldn’t resist going up to look at the vine that was still attached to Feng Tianlan. The vine wasn’t very long, but their hearts still ached for Feng Tianlan.
Zhang Tiancheng wanted to look too but stopped himself because of a cold, murderous look from Si Mobai. The Wargod quickly became jealous, so he decided against taking a peek.
Si Mobai moved the vine a little, then grabbed it with his hand. He pulled it a little to see what would happen, and Feng Tianlan could feel throbbing pain. She frowned, “Continue.”
“Alright.” When Si Mobai saw that nothing terrible had happened to her, he tugged harder. Slowly, he pulled the plant out, but he felt that this vine seemed to be alive. Either it kept burrowing in further, or it held onto something.
Initially, Feng Tianlan endured the pain, but her head was soon covered with sweat, and she felt like her heart was being squeezed by something. The pain was making it difficult for her to breathe.
“Continue.” Feng Tianlan endured the terrible pain, and her voice trembled.
“Miss.” Chuling’s eyes went red from the anxiety. She took out a handkerchief to wipe away the cold sweat from Feng Tianlan’s face. She wanted to tell Si Mobai to stop, but leaving this thing inside Tianlan might be even more dangerous.
Luo Yunzhu started pacing in place from the anxiety, but she didn’t dare say anything because she was afraid of disrupting Si Mobai.
Si Mobai took in a deep breath and exerted strength again…
PFFT!
“Lan’er!” Si Mobai immediately stopped when he heard Feng Tianlan vomiting blood. But he didn’t let go, because he didn’t want his earlier efforts to go to waste.
Feng Tianlan clutched her chest, and the pain caused her voice to tremble. “Let…let go.”
Si Mobai looked at the small length of vine, then saw how Feng Tianlan’s body was shaking from the pain. He had no choice but to let go and stop. He reached out to catch Feng Tianlan, who was on the verge of collapsing.
