The vines multiplied after being chopped. Slicing them only helped them stay alive longer, so Feng Tianlan and her friends were probably still going to die. But then, if they didn’t beat back the vines at all, the carnivorous plants would simply eat them.
No matter what they decided to do, the end result would still be death.
It was as if the vines were sentient. They were closely intertwined as they attacked from all directions. It was like a huge web that trapped everyone inside.
“Ah!” Chuling screamed.
Feng Tianlan swung her dagger and slashed a nearby vine. She heard a shout from Luo Yunzhu and hurried to protect her. The situation instantly disintegrated.
Feng Tianlan used her dagger to chop several vines, but they only doubled in number. Her eyes grew grim. “Azurite, do you have any ideas?”
“These are all carnivorous, so there’s no other choice. All of you better run quickly, and I’ll cover you,” said Lin Suyin calmly and seriously after abandoning her team and running to Feng Tianlan’s side.
Feng Tianlan didn’t look at her. She continued to use all her strength to hack up all the vines that were coming at her. She needed to buy enough time to think up a way to get rid of these vines once and for all.
Lin Suyin was upset for a moment when she realized she had been ignored. She had already put her life in danger to gain Feng Tianlan’s favor, so why was Feng Tianlan still suspicious of her?
“Master, use your Wood Element to find the main vine and get rid of it. Then, we can eliminate the rest.” Azurite examined the vines that had regrown after being chopped and continued to explain, “Master, these are Spirit Severing Vines. They go crazy when they smell blood. Since we are bloody, they have become even wilder. The situation will remain like this unless we can find a way to get rid of the blood smell that’s coming from us.”
When they heard what Azurite had said, someone quickly shouted, “Everyone, let’s find the largest tree!”
“Since we’re the ones that are bloody, then, of course, we have to remove our clothes!”
It was not possible, however, because hundreds of vines were attacking them from all sides. Many people had been caught by the vines, and their screaming filled the air.
“Azurite, protect Yunzhu and the others. Don’t bother with me.” Feng Tianlan’s eyes grew cold as she scanned the area. She noticed a particular pattern amidst the chaos. The vines seemed only interested in capturing people, but there were no casualties so far.
“Got it.” Azurite never asked why. She only obeyed her master’s commands.
“Tianlan, what are you thinking of doing?” Luo Yunzhu asked worriedly as she continued to chop the vines.
Feng Tianlan narrowed her eyes, stirred up her cinnabar field, and unleashed green Spiritual force carrying the Wood Element. She hoped that this force would be able to strike a resonance with its fellow Wood Element carriers and locate the Spirit Severing Vines’ main vine.
However, once the vines that had captured people noticed that this Spiritual force contained the Wood Element, their patience evaporated, and they started attacking even more wildly than before. Instead of just capturing people, they began to attack them in earnest. There were screams everywhere, and the smell of blood once again filled the air. This, naturally, only drove the vines even crazier than before.
Feng Tianlan looked up to see a vine as thick as an arm heading for Luo Yunzhu’s back like a sharp knife. Her eyes focused, and she pounced over and cut through it cleanly with her dagger. At the same time, another vine whipped her back. There was a tearing sound as it created a long and frightening wound. She could feel the stinging pain inside her.
After Feng Tianlan was injured, the smell of her blood pervaded the air. There was a moment of silence as the vines all stopped attacking and turned toward her.
“Tianlan!” Luo Yunzhu widened her eyes. She panicked when she saw that the vine that had injured Feng Tianlan had become even thicker and larger. On top of that, all the other vines were converging on her friend. Feng Tianlan, meanwhile, trembled even more violently with horror.
