"You are delusional," Ellena chuckled. "I didn't kill the queen. You did. And that's why you are here now."
Emmelyn really wanted to smack Ellena for being so wicked and shameless. They both knew the truth.
It was obvious Ellena was the one who planned all these and she had the motive. Yet, even after Emmelyn was arrested for the crime she didn't commit and held in this prison, Ellena still pretended she had nothing to do with Queen Elara's death?
"Cut the crap. We know you did it and you are so pathetic because you cannot get your own man that you are after another woman's husband," said Emmelyn with disgust.
"Do you think he wouldn't ever find out that it was you who killed his mother? Even if you want to cover rotten eggs, the smell will someday come out and you will be found out. No bad deed goes unpunished!"
Ellena smirked when she heard Emmelyn's words. She couldn't care less. She knew she had covered her tracks well. She was away from the capital after she broke off her friendship with the crown prince.
She and her parents intentionally went to the countryside to be away from the capital for the time being. When the assassination happened, they would be far and there was no way to connect them to the perpetrator.
Besides, Ellena had made it clear to Mars that she didn't want to have anything to do with him anymore after she felt hurt by his treatment. Everything was already planned.
If she was still seen as the woman infatuated with the crown prince and she was hovering around the capital by the time the queen was killed, Ellena, too, would be suspected.
However, she had managed to distance herself and made Emmelyn seem the only possible suspect. She had the motive, the opportunity, and the most important thing was the murder weapon.
"We'll see about that," said Ellena arrogantly. "I don't need a handout from a woman like you. You are nothing but a homeless princess who has nothing to her name. You don't deserve him. You don't sacrifice for him as much I did."
"The thing is… he loves me. He loves me so deeply and I have his child. We have an unbreakable bond. He will never see you as a woman. If anything… he will probably find another woman to marry once he moves on from me. In the end, all your 'sacrifices' will be for naught." Emmelyn still tried to persuade Ellena.
She hated being in this situation, but she had no choice. She couldn't die here in Draec. She must escape. She had thought about all possible strategies to get out of her prison, but none seem to work.
The only way she could think of now was to make Ellena let her go.
"I can write a letter, telling him that I did it. I will write my confession, so he will know for sure that I really kill his mother. That way, he will surely hate me." She looked at Ellena, looking almost like she was pleading. "I don't care about him. I just want to get out of here."
Ellena narrowed her eyes when she heard Emmelyn's offer. She actually thought Mars was as good as hers when Emmelyn died. She would make sure Emmelyn will be executed for killing the queen.
That way, there will be no more competition to win Mars' heart. However, it was difficult to have Emmelyn killed while she was pregnant. Everyone was watching and many people around the royal family knew that this woman was carrying the crown prince's baby.
It would be a sin to kill the offsprings of a royal. So, they would be against executing this pregnant woman. But Ellena couldn't wait that long.
What if Mars arrived before Emmelyn could be killed?
He might be blinded by his love for her and refused to punish her even though she was proven guilty of the late queen's assassination. What if that happened?
Who knew? A man in love could do the unthinkable.
Just look at what the king did 28 years ago. He left his fiancee despite being frowned upon by everyone around them. And years later, people forgot about it and accepted his wife as the rightful queen.
If Mars chose to take Emmelyn's side, even though everyone in the kingdom would condemn her, he could make it so that Emmelyn would be exonerated. He would force the judges to free Emmelyn.
If that happened, then, Ellena's plan to get rid of Emmelyn for good would fail.
And then… what would happen to Ellena?
She would be left with nothing.
No, she couldn't let it happen. She had done so much. She had sacrificed years of her life to serve Thessalis Morelli, and she had also killed the queen.
No.. she must get what she was after. She had to get the prince's heart and become his wife. Then, as her father aspired, Ellena would be the next queen of the powerful Draec kingdom.
Fine. Maybe she could do what Emmelyn say, to make sure Mars would NEVER forgive her. If his love had turned into hatred, he would not protect Emmelyn and he would not care if she died.
"I can just write YOUR letter and kill you," Ellena shrugged. "You don't have any bargaining power in that regard. Haha.. thanks for giving me ideas."
Emmelyn bit her lip so hard that it was bleeding. She hated Ellena to the core and wished she could rip her mouth.
"You cannot forge my handwriting. He will recognize it. He has my writing to compare," said Emmelyn.
She remembered their old contract when she agreed to bear him three children and he would give her back her kingdom and her freedom. Surely, Mars would be able to check if it was her handwriting or not.
"Okay, you got my attention," Ellena smiled. "You want me to release you in exchange for your freedom?"
"Yes," Emmelyn said. "I will go far away from here."
"Very well. I will grant it. You can write the letter now and confess your sin."
"I am not dumb," Emmelyn clicked her tongue impatiently. "I will write it only after you let me go."
