"Wh…where's brother Hao?" Ma Yu glanced at the group. Although there was a smile on her face and she was hiding it well, everyone could tell she sounded very anxious. Shi Chun who was nearby also came over.
Zeng Yu stared at her without saying anything. He opened his mouth and then quickly closed it.
Zeng Wu saw his father struggling to find the words so he came forward himself. Zeng Yu had always been bad at these things…
He looked her in the eyes and enunciated every word softly, "There was an accident in the tomb. We lost several people, including Captain Deimos."
Ma Yu didn't reply and kept staring back at him without blinking. Shi Chun frowned and glanced at the group himself as well, to make sure it was actually so. When he didn't find Hao Xuan, his frown got deeper.
"Princess," he whispered next to Ma Yu's ear, startling her.
"Ah, yes. We…..we must….I don't know…you take care of it," she turned around and walked away absentmindedly, mumbling.
Shi Chun looked at her back with clenched fists, before turning back towards Zeng Yu, "The mission is finished yes? The leader has been lost, we should leave now."
Zeng Yu looked back at him expressionlessly and then nodded.
"Yes, it is time we leave. I'll go let the science team know. And you lot," he looked at his group, "Rest. We depart in a few hours."
Without wasting any time at all he went straight towards the science teams area. They had a large metallic container set up in one of the corners of the camp.
"Where's Yin Da?" he asked the first person he saw who led him into the container.
Yin Da was standing in front of a glass box while holding a syringe. There was something squirming in front of him and making low humming sounds.
"It's time. Find the location of the closest rift, we have to return." Without waiting for a reply, he quickly turned around and started walking out, when Yin Da's response came, stopping him mid-stride.
"No."
He put down the syringe and turned around.
"I still have some business here. we cannot leave just yet," he said shaking his head.
"The mission is over. We lost captain Deimos, it doesn't matter what your business is. We are leaving," Zeng Yu said firmly, making Yin Da break out into a smile.
"Commander, I'm sure you're aware of my reputation yes?" he asked serenely.
Zeng Yu didn't reply, only staring at him with daggers in his eyes.
Yin Da didn't mind and continued, "Why do you think I haven't been prosecuted then?," he walked closer to Zeng Yu and patted him on the shoulder, "Actually, let me just tell you. There are some really powerful people I work for. People you can never hope to even be in the company off. They let me do my thing and in exchange, I give them results."
"You see, these creatures we found here, they are very strange. From what I have seen so far in the tombs and the data gathered from their 'examinations', they were once something very close to us, genetically. But then something happened that destroyed an entire world. And I think, I can find out what it was."
"So you just need to wait. I only need a few weeks and then we can return," his smile turned into a twisted grin as he stared at him.
Zeng Yu's aura erupted as he extended his hand and grabbed Yin Da by the throat, not even giving him a chance to react.
"I'm in no mood to argue so, you died here. In a lab accident, and we had to find another person who was able to use the machine," he said nonchalantly while tightening his grasp around Yin Da's neck.
"You can't! I already destroyed it!" Yin Da shouted while waving his hand. A pile of broken metal parts fell down on the floor with a loud clank. He looked at Zeng Yu worriedly, "I found the location of the next rift. I can guide you there. It will open in three weeks. You….have no choice…but to….trust…me.."
His eyes went white as he passed out. Zeng Yu loosened his grip, letting Yin Da's limp body fall to the ground. He then lifted up his foot and kicked him in the stomach, sending him flying into the container's wall.
*Cough*Cough*
Yin Da woke from the impact and started coughing blood. He looked up at Zeng Yu with both anger and trepidation in his eyes.
Zeng Yu, on the other hand, looked completely tranquil and it sounded like he was talking about someone else.
"There are ghouls on this god damned planet. We will be lucky to escape with our lives, and if we do, the generals will hear about this. Get your sh*t ready, we are leaving for the rift's location. You can do what you want over there, not before."
Yin Da could only nod back in response. Half his chest was already caved in, any more and it would be really serious.
Zeng Yu scoffed in disdain at his response, "Trash," he muttered before walking out.
*Cough*Cough*Cough*Cough*
Yin Da looked at the closed door as a vicious expression appeared on his face, "Just you wait till we get out of here. You will pay, the lot of you. I will use your bodies for my experiments until you beg for mercy. And then I will dismember you and feast on your carcass while you watch!"
****
About ten hours later, the entire base camp was packed up and ready to go. With Yin Da at the front, they left for the area where the Rift would appear.
A day after their departure, the black door in the first tomb opened, releasing copious amounts of Yin Qi.
There was so much that the entire 'hundreds of meter tall' gulley was drowned in it within a few seconds, and a few minutes later every single gulley was transformed into rivers of bone-chilling Yin Qi.
And from these rivers of Qi came out hundreds of thousands of horrendous creatures. Some that once looked like humans, while others were multi-limbed beast carcasses melded together, creating horrifying scenes.
Some even had bones spurs jutting out from their bodies in the forms of blades, scythes, hammers and all sorts of weapons.
Howls and shrieks could be heard non-stop, as these creatures spread out in all directions. Every second, thousands more would crawl out of the rivers of Yin Qi, spreading malicious energy into the surroundings and corrupting the world itself.
At the forefront of the monster wave that was heading straight towards Zeng Yu's direction was a seven-limbed spider-like creature. On top of it stood a humanoid figure.
There were strands of hair on its burnt head and a white sword in its hand.. An inhumane smile adorned its face as it looked ahead, excited for the upcoming slaughter.
