The butchers who were blocking the road were stunned. Seeing Ling Yichen’s smooth, mirror-like move severing such a sturdy tree stump and eyeing the sword in his hands, they all collectively gulped in nervousness. It was such a big tree, that even if they had used axes and knives to saw it, it would still be wishful thinking to say they could cut it down with the efforts of at least half a day. The other party had just gently swung his sword and the tree had split into two like a piece of bean curd. To make such a difficult act look so simple revealed how strong he was.
“Want to be like this huge tree?” chirped Ling Chuxi breezily. The butchers who were blocking the road turned pale.
Ling Yichen’s face was cold and stern. The tip of his toes touched the ground and he floated back to the carriage. Before the carriage even reached them, the butchers blocking the road had already scrambled to move aside.
The carriage drove past the butchers and from behind them, Lady Xiao Rou’s pitiful cries could still be heard.
“Dad, he doesn’t want me anymore. He doesn’t want me anymore. I am too ashamed to face anyone in the future.” Lady Xiao Rou was shedding tears as if she was about to burst into sobs. If she were a few tons lighter, would she then be considered a beauty who would invoke the love and pity of someone looking on at this heartbreaking scene.
“Don’t cry anymore, my daughter. To tell you the truth, you guys were never a good match from the start. For such a beauty like you to have fancied him is his blessings. It is his loss that he is unable to marry you. Just wait a few days and I will help arrange another marriage for you. I guarantee that anyone would be much better than him. With those skinny arms and thighs of his, his entire body would not even add up to two catties of meat. I don’t even know what you fancy about him,” said the butcher, lowering his knife and comforting his daughter.
Lines appeared across Ling Chuxi and Ling Yichen’s foreheads. Although the purpose was to console someone, wasn’t this a little too fake?
“No, no. He’s the one I fancy. I want to be married to him and him alone,” replied Lady Xiao Rou coquettishly.
When Ling Chuxi and Ling Yichen turned back to look at Lady Xiao Rou, they got goosebumps all over.
“I can tell that Lady Xiao Rou still has quite a deep love for you,” said Ling Chuxi to Jiang Wuhen teasingly.
“You don’t say?” replied Jiang Wuhen. He dry heaved a couple of times, stood up and then pulled out one of his cloth banners. The banner unrolled to reveal a row of words written in large letters—’Outstanding and Extraordinary, Suave Number One Most Handsome in the World’.
Jiang Wuhen stood under the banner proudly with his chest puffed out and his posture straight and proud. If one were to just look at only his back, then there were perhaps a couple of hints indicating he was a suave young man.
Despite all the grotesque things she had the misfortune to see, Ling Chuxi had never barfed, but this time, she really wanted to puke.
“All right. You still owe me three thousand taels of white silver. Pay up.” Ling Chuxi withheld her urge to bash this fella up into a pig’s head, instead stretching out her hand and rubbing her fingers in anticipation of her money.
“You aren’t for real, are you?” said Jiang Wuhen with a smile as his straight back immediately twisted ninety degrees.
“What do you think? Lady Xiao Rou still has a deep love for you and is eagerly waiting for you to change your mind. Why don’t I just send you back to her? What I like most is to fulfil the good wishes of others,” said Ling Chuxi with a sincere and friendly smile.
Jiang Wuhen hesitated for a short while, then ruthlessly gritted his teeth and dug out a gold note to hand to Ling Chuxi. The action caused him so much pain that even his hands were shaking.
“I knew it. how would the ‘Outstanding and Extraordinary, Suave Number One Most Handsome in the World’ take advantage of me as such,” said Ling Chuxi as she pocketed the gold note. Her eyes were so curved from her smiling so wide that they became crescents.
Ling Chuxi had never once felt that she was someone who liked to build her happiness on others’ pain. But seeing such a despicable person like Jiang Wuhen admitting defeat like this, gave her extraordinarily pleasant feelings.
The whole way, Jiang Wuhen wore a sad face and was felt the pain of having to return the gold notes that he had not even managed to warm up, back to its original owner. They didn’t stop even as they passed by Ling Xi City, and a very depressed Jiang Wuhen continued to drive the carriage towards Nan Xia Country. It could be reckoned that he was afraid he would get beaten up if he returned to Ling Xi City, and he was even more fearful that Ling Chuxi would take such an opportunity to rip him off further.
