Mu Siyin took a deep breath as Shi Beiyu held her tightly. Somehow, it was the only way that could calm the fears in her heart.
“Had a nightmare?”
Shi Beiyu questioned softly. He placed a big hand on her back and gently rubbed it.
Feeling his warmth and his breath against her skin, Mu Siyin nodded lightly. “Yeah. I… I think I dreamt about my sister’s accident. It looked so terrifying.”
The image of the blood was still lingering in her mind. Bright red blood covered every spot on the ground.
Upon hearing this, Shi Beiyu’s hand paused for a second on her back. Then, he pulled her into a tighter embrace and comforted her, “You’re thinking too much. It happened 12 years ago. Don’t torment yourself over something that has long passed.”
Mu Siyin nodded her head. “Okay.”
Shi Beiyu was right. The accident had happened so long ago, and they were already dead. What was the point of grappling over this matter?
It took some time before Mu Siyin fell asleep in Shi Beiyu’s arms again.
On the other hand, Shi Beiyu found himself wide awake.
He had never forgotten about the accident 12 years ago. Every single detail was still deeply imprinted in his memories.
Early the next morning, sunlight permeated the clouds and shone graciously over every corner of the earth. Its bright rays woke all who were deep in sleep.
Mu Siyin was very stressed out and did not have a good night’s sleep.
As the sunlight radiated through the glass and landed on her tiny face, she furrowed her brows and woke up from her dreams.
Shi Beiyu had been up for some time. When Mu Siyin fluttered open her eyes, he asked softly, “Awake?”
Mu Siyin was still sleepy but came to her senses when she heard his voice. She lifted her gaze and looked at Shi Beiyu as she croaked, “How long have you been up?”
Shi Beiyu smiled. “5 minutes.”
Mu Siyin squinted her eyes and whispered, “What time is it? I need to go to work.”
Shi Beiyu lifted his hands and caressed her messy, long hair. “You can stay,” he murmured.
Mu Siyin frowned at him. “I’ve just gotten employed. I’ll leave a bad impression if I skip work.”
Shi Beiyu raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure you don’t want a day off?”
He was worried that if she was under too much stress, she would probably be tired and irritable at work.
Mu Siyin burst into laughter. “It’s not like I’m sick or dying. Why do I need a day off? I need to get up!”
Shi Beiyu found it weird to see her in such a good state.
Was she really fine?
“What are you looking at? Don’t you need to go to work too?”
Shi Beiyu was slightly disappointed. He had wanted to take her out to clear her thoughts. However, since she wanted to go to the company, he had no choice… but to cancel his plans.
“Yeah.”
The couple got out of bed and had their breakfast together. None of them spoke about what had happened last night.
Perhaps it had finally got through to Mu Siyin that dwelling on the past would not change anything. After all, the accident had happened so long ago. The only thing she could do now was let it go and continue living her life with Shi Beiyu. It would be bad if this tore them apart.
Shi Beiyu sent Mu Siyin to her company. Just as he made a U-turn, his phone started to vibrate non-stop.
He lowered his head and glanced at his phone. It was… his grandfather.
He sighed, irritated. It looked like his mother had already told his grandfather about Mu Siyin.
After a while, he lifted his hand to answer the call. “Grandpa.”
“I don’t care where you are right now! Get yourself back home at once!” Old Master Shi bellowed sternly. The old man was extremely dominant, and his commanding tone gave no room for protest.
Upon hearing this, Shi Beiyu said calmly, “I’m going to the company now. We’ll talk after I’m done with work.”
“You… Will you only be satisfied when I collapse from anger?”
“I have no intentions to piss you off. It’s not my fault that you’re obsessed with troubling yourselves.”
