Yan Su was surprised when she heard that.
What about her days in high school? The housemaid would prepare boiled eggs and milk for her every day. Moreover, if she requested, the housemaid would make deep-fried dough sticks, noodles, wantons, or dumplings the next morning as she wished. Ms. Jiang bought her many pretty clothes as well. Mo Liuxi’s old life made her heart ache.
“You had a rough time before you got back to the Morrison family?” Yan Su asked softly. “But I heard a well-known director took you in and mentored you since high school?”
“I had a part-time job back then. But I couldn’t spend all my money just because I was making some. You couldn’t make more if you don’t save up. Also, the tuition fee wasn’t exactly cheap.” Mo Liuxi was not uncomfortable talking about his past. “It was alright to be broke back then. Yes, I did only have two sets of clothes, but I was confident that I would look great in anything. I did not care much about my looks — it’s not like I was trying to get a girlfriend.”
Yan Su respected Mo Liuxi for that. She never thought about making more money with the money she had when she was about the same age. Maybe it had to do with the environment a person was in.
“He’s not wrong,” Chu Jiu chuckled and said. “Because of his looks, there were so many girls who had their eyes on him in school. There was one time a girl wanted to date him. Do you know what he said? He said, ‘Why would I date you? It’s just a waste of money.’ That girl then said that she would pay for everything if he could be with her, and he said to her that he didn’t want a sugar mommy… and he walked off with his head held high.”
Yan Su rubbed her fingers on Mo Liuxi’s palm with a big smile on her face. “Being with me is a waste of money as well…”
“I would waste all the money in the world for you.” Mo Liuxi kissed Yan Su on her cheek.
Chu Jiu cleared his throat and said, “Right, watch yourselves — I am still here.”
“No one sees you anyway,” Mo Liuxi said with no emotion.
Chu Jiu was speechless.
Chu Jiu thumped the steering wheel, upset, and said, “Mo Liuxi, we have not seen each other for almost a year. Do you have to be so heartless?”
Mo Liuxi answered without blinking, “You are not my girlfriend. Why should I put my heart out for you? Don’t you agree, Susu?”
Yan Su sighed helplessly. Thank God she was Mo Liuxi’s girlfriend.
They drove on.
Because of Yan Su’s popularity, public places did not seem appropriate for the three. Chu Jiu then took the couple directly to a bowling alley.
Yan Su did not have much experience with bowling, so she had a try and was enjoying herself. In the meantime, Chu Jiu and Mo Liuxi were sitting on the couch, drinking coffee, and talking about investments.
Yan Su was shocked. She thought Mo Liuxi was only good at making movies. Also, Chu Jiu seemed to be around the same age as Mo Liuxi, but he definitely knew his stuff when it came to investments.
“You want to invest in the esports industry?” Yan Su walked over to Mo Liuxi and asked softly. “I don’t feel confident about that industry. It’s just a bunch of children playing video games.”
Mo Liuxi pulled her onto his lap and said, “You don’t know much about that. Chu Jiu was studying overseas. The esports industry is thriving overseas right now. It’s gaining attention inside the country as well. He is planning to invite leading esports companies from Korea, Japan, and other countries, start esports competitions and attract sponsors. It’s an industry with huge profits.
Chu Jiu smiled and said, “Sister Yan, do you know how Liuxi and I became friends? I made a little game when I was studying in Europe. My dad got mad at me and said that I was just fooling around. Liuxi found out about it. He ran directly to me and said he wanted to work with me. He said he would pay me to develop the game. And I thought, how could someone as poor as you have any money for investment? But then he ended up investing a million and I was almost shocked to death. The game then went on to become one of the best sellers in Europe. We made a huge amount of money, and I started to see him in a different light.”
