Soon after, Tang Hao stepped out of the gates.
He was more confused than ever.
Teacher Jiang said that both of her parents were normal people. However, if they were truly normal people, how were they involved with Chinese triads from another country?
“I can’t figure out what’s going on!” Tang Hao mumbled as he returned to his car.
Jiang Wanying immediately pounced on him and touched all over him with her delicate hands. “Are you OK? Did you get hurt? I thought I heard gunfire,” She said anxiously.
Tang Hao blushed. “I’m fine! I’m really fine!”
After confirming that Tang Hao was unhurt, she breathed a sigh of relief and returned to her seat.
She blushed slightly and lowered her head. “I’m glad that you’re fine. Don’t you know how worried I was?”
Tang Hao coughed lightly and asked her seriously, “Teacher Jiang, are you sure that your parents are normal people?”
Jiang Wanying was surprised. “Why do you ask that? Aren’t they in the mansion? What’s going on?”
Tang Hao told her what he was told by Wu Qiye.
Jiang Wanying was equally clueless as Tang Hao.
“That… That’s impossible! My parents are as normal as one can be. One of them is a teacher and the other is a civil servant. How would they be related to overseas Chinese triads?” Jiang Wanying mumbled.
“Looks like we’ll have to find your parents and ask them ourselves,” Tang Hao said, “They left the mansion only a little more than an hour ago. The ship departs at night. There’s still time.”
As Tang Hao spoke, he started his car and drove to the port.
It was evening when they arrived at the destination.
Tang Hao ordered Jiang Wanying to stay in the car while he went alone.
There was only one way to smuggle people out of the country by ship, which was by using a shipping container. However, there were tens of thousands of containers at the port and they stretched on without end.
Tang Hao went to the management office to ask for information. There was indeed a ship that would be departing for Merrica that night.
He asked several more questions and obtained the cargo manifest.
Using the manifest, he went to the ship and searched through the containers one by one.
Very soon, he made a discovery.
Standing in front of a container, he could sense two living objects inside. He could vaguely hear their heartbeats and breathing.
‘This is the one!’
Tang Hao’s expression changed. He narrowed his eyes.
He immediately proceeded to open the container.
Suddenly, he sensed killing intent behind him. Then, he could hear the whistle of a throwing knife piercing through the air.
He deftly dodged aside.
He heard the person who threw the knife exclaim in surprise that their target managed to dodge the attack.
After that, he heard the sounds of a few more knives being thrown.
“Tsk.” Tang Hao reached out and grabbed the knives in his hand.
That person was dumbfounded when he saw that.
The person leaped off the container and tried to run away. Tang Hao flicked his wrist. A throwing knife flew out and pierced that person’s calf.
“Ow!” The person cried out in pain and fell on the floor.
Tang Hao went and examined the person. He was a short and small man in his forties with a pointed face that looked like a monkey.
“So you’re the one behind this!’ Tang Hao smirked. “Tell me, what’s going on, and why did you kidnap this family?”
The person kept his mouth shut and said nothing.
His beady eyes glared at Tang Hao.
“You’re not speaking?” Tang Hao smirked again. He retrieved a truth potion and force-fed it to him. Very soon, the person spilled the beans and told him everything he knew.
Tang Hao was disappointed after hearing what the person had to say.
The person was also a minion who did not know the reason behind the kidnapping.
He knocked the person out with a karate chop, then went to open the shipping container. He found a crate in a corner and saw two people curled up inside. They were Teacher Jiang’s parents.
The two people were unconscious. He quickly checked their vital signs to find out that they were generally unharmed albeit a little weak.
He deftly untied them, and the two people gradually woke up.
They were confused when they saw Tang Hao.
“You are…?” Mr. Jiang was clueless.
He could sense that the boy came to their rescue, but who was he?
“You’re… sent here by my father?” Mrs. Jiang said hesitantly.
Tang Hao was surprised when he heard the question. He soon understood that the two people had more than normal backgrounds.
“No, I’m Teacher Jiang’s student, er… by Teacher Jiang, I mean your daughter,” Tang Hao said.
The two people were shocked. “What? You’re my daughter’s student?”
Tang Hao nodded.
The two people were silent for a while but eventually accepted his explanation.
“Where’s my daughter? Is she OK?” They asked anxiously.
“She’s fine. Let’s go!”
Tang Hao brought the two people to his car.
When Jiang Wanying saw them, she got out of the car and ran toward them.
“Dad! Mom!” Jiang Wanying hugged them tightly. She was crying tears of joy.
“Eh, we’re fine! Why are you crying?” Mr. Jiang said with a smile.
“Dad, Mom, what’s going on? Are you hiding something from me?” Jiang Wanying stopped sobbing and started asking.
She was not stupid. She knew that her parents must be hiding some truths from her.
“Well…” Her parents turned away their heads, trying to hide their guilt from their daughter.
“Let’s talk in the car!” Tang Hao said.
The four people sat in the car.
After a long silence, Mrs. Jiang finally opened her mouth. “I’m sorry for hiding this you for so long, Wanying. To tell you the truth, your grandfather is still alive, and his identity is… unusual.”
“What? Mom, didn’t you say that Grandpa passed away a long time ago?” Jiang Wanying was indignant.
Mrs. Jiang smiled sheepishly. “I lied to you for your own good, and our family’s good. Your grandfather isn’t a good person.”
Jiang Wanying was dumbstruck.
Even though her mother did not say it, she could connect the dots and figure out what was going on. Her grandfather must have been a gangster in a foreign country.
Her family was kidnapped because of him.
She sat there in a daze.
The news was too much of a shock for her.
She had always been a law-abiding citizen who kept her head down. After graduating from university, she became a teacher so that she could be a role model and educate the future generation. She did not expect that her grandfather would be a gangster.
She felt as though fate was playing a practical joke on her.
Tang Hao, sitting next to her, was equally shocked.
‘Wh… What? Does the innocent and naive Teacher Jiang have a gangster for a grandfather?
‘How could this be?’ He thought, feeling utterly flustered.
